Dorothy Lorraine Swain, age 91,of Janesville, WI died December 2, 2014 at her home. She was born May 9, 1923 at rural Waterville, IA to Hjalmer H. and Ellinora (Bakkum) Swain. Dorothy graduated in 1941 from Waterville High School, attended Waukon Junior College and Minneapolis Business College. She was a resident of Minneapolis, working as a legal secretary 20 of her 40 years at Peavey Company. Dorothy was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis where she taught Sunday School and assisted the Heritage Committee in preserving church history. She sang in the Senior Choir for 45 years, taking trips with them to the Holy Land, Rome and the Salzburg Music Festival. After moving to Janesville to live with her sister, Ruth M. Hughes, with whom she resided until Ruth’s death in 2013, Dorothy was a member of First Congregational U.C.C.
She is survived by two nephews, Bruce L. Hughes of Brooklyn Park, MN and David A. Hughes of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ruth M. Hughes.
A graveside service and burial will be at a later date at the East Paint Creek Lutheran Synod Church Cemetery in Waterville, IA. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville assisted the family.
